CurtainsDyeing your curtains is a simple and inexpensive way to update your decor. Curtains can be dyed to colour-match or complement your paint for an uniquely coordinated effect. Any curtains that are a solid colour and made from natural fibres should dye successfully. Curtains made from mixed fibres or polyester may dye unevenly. Printed patterned fabrics and multi-colour fabrics will produce unpredictable results. Check the condition of the curtains as if they are extremely faded or sun-bleached this may affect the integrity of the fabric. Hems need to be securely sewn as loose tacking may come undone during the dying process. Check for tears or raw edges which may fray. Curtains must not have interlining or weights in them, and cannot have sewn-in pleats. Please be aware that most lining fabrics are made of cotton and will also dye. Lining fabrics are also more prone to sun-bleaching which weakens the fabric integrity. If in any doubt about the suitability of the curtains for dyeing, it is advisable to send a fabric sample for a free dye-test. Unsuitable fabrics which have been sent without prior agreement will have to be collected or returned at your expense.
