CurtainsCan we dye curtains? Yes we can - sometimes. Curtains can be trickier than sofa covers for several reasons. They may have been subjected to strong sunlight bleaching and the fabric may be less substantial than upholstery fabric. They may not be so well made as they generally are not subjected to the same stresses as sofa covers. Often the hems are hand tacked and these can come loose in the process. However if your curtains are not too badly faded, and not too old, are made from a solid colour 100% cotton, have no interlinings or plastic type finishes, have no weights in them or sewn in pleats it may be possible to dye them. We may also be able to reline them for you. Bear in mind the original lining fabric will dye if it is made of cotton. But often the original lining fabric is weakened by direct sunlight. Usually printed patterned fabrics or other multi-colour patterned fabrics will not successfully dye. Just now and then some do and can be quite successful. We would need a representative sample of fabric to carry out a free dye test for you.
